Anyone who uses a computer on a fairly regular basis knows it comes with some adverse health effects. Some include eye strain, and aches and pains in the hands/wrist. Repetitive motion from typing and using a mouse can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome which is a quite serious condition. I do a good amount of typing, not so much from blogging but school related projects. My hands often start to hurt after a few hours spent on a project.
Voice recognition software can significantly reduce the amount of typing you do when used as an alternative. Dragon Naturally Speaking is one of these programs. It is Blue Tooth compatible and claims to be able to capture 150 words a minute which is pretty impressive. It could definitely help me finish assignments faster and with less strain on my eyes and hands.
To get a good idea idea of how fast you speak as opposed to how fast you can type, take the Dragon’s typing speed test! I did, and let me tell it the difference is amazing. I wouldn’t want to totally replace typing, but voice recognition is a huge help with the more tedious and involved projects.
