Pink for October
Posted on October 10th, 2008 @ 3:01 pm

New Layout!  I was way overdue for a new layout anyway. This layout is more than a pretty face however.. as you may know, October is breast cancer awareness month, and pink is symbolic for this.  It wasn’t exactly hard to use this lovely layout anyway, and it’s great to show support for this cause.   If you want to learn more and get involved yourself go to Pink for October.  There are links to PFO Wordpress themes, banners and you can also register your site there. :$

Okay, with that done, I really need to get down to work.  No more looking at Outer Banks houses! ;)

Election
Posted on October 10th, 2008 @ 12:27 pm

Not to go all political on you, but I think will anyway. It seems the Presidential election in the United States is greatly overshadowing the upcoming Canadian Federal election (on October 14th). I agree the U.S electon is crucial, whereas the Canadian election will probably result in the same as the last - a Conservative minority.

I appeal to all Canadian voters - which party are you voting for come October 14th? Americans - how about you?

I’m just curious. :D

Naturally speaking
Posted on October 10th, 2008 @ 12:17 pm

Anyone who uses a computer on a fairly regular basis knows it comes with some adverse health effects.  Some include eye strain, and aches and pains in the hands/wrist.  Repetitive motion from typing and using a mouse can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome  which is a quite serious condition.  I do a good amount of typing, not so much from blogging but school related projects.  My hands often start to hurt after a few hours spent on a project.

Voice recognition software can significantly reduce the amount of typing you do when used as an alternative. Dragon Naturally Speaking is one of these programs. It is Blue Tooth compatible and claims to be able to capture 150 words a minute which is pretty impressive. It could definitely help me finish assignments faster and with less strain on my eyes and hands.

To get a good idea idea of how fast you speak as opposed to how fast you can type, take the Dragon’s typing speed test! I did, and let me tell it the difference is amazing. I wouldn’t want to totally replace typing, but voice recognition is a huge help with the more tedious and involved projects. To learn more about this software, and how it can help you, watch these videos and view the following links.

And the not so fun
Posted on October 10th, 2008 @ 11:14 am

What’s not so fun:

  • Cleaning up a room that has somehow gotten very messy again in a matter of days
  • Reviewing trig for not one, but two upcoming tests

But that’s what is on my to-do list today!  Oh well.  It’s tempting to skip this work though, because following the torrential downpours of yesterday, the weather has turned sunny!

Fun stuff
Posted on October 9th, 2008 @ 12:07 pm

I have a dentist appointment later on today, and while I’m not looking forward to it (who does actually like dentist appointments?) at least it will be over with for another 6 months!

Thanksgiving (October 13th) has certainely snuck up quickly. I’m definitely looking forward to the food! :$ Other then that, I’m trying out and trying to get the hang of Dreamweaver, and off to try and figure out what the heck CLA stands for.
