Pink for October
Posted on October 10th, 2008 @ 3:01 pm

New Layout!  I was way overdue for a new layout anyway. This layout is more than a pretty face however.. as you may know, October is breast cancer awareness month, and pink is symbolic for this.  It wasn’t exactly hard to use this lovely layout anyway, and it’s great to show support for this cause.   If you want to learn more and get involved yourself go to Pink for October.  There are links to PFO Wordpress themes, banners and you can also register your site there. :$

Okay, with that done, I really need to get down to work.  No more looking at Outer Banks houses! ;)

Naturally speaking
Posted on October 10th, 2008 @ 12:17 pm

Anyone who uses a computer on a fairly regular basis knows it comes with some adverse health effects.  Some include eye strain, and aches and pains in the hands/wrist.  Repetitive motion from typing and using a mouse can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome  which is a quite serious condition.  I do a good amount of typing, not so much from blogging but school related projects.  My hands often start to hurt after a few hours spent on a project.

Voice recognition software can significantly reduce the amount of typing you do when used as an alternative. Dragon Naturally Speaking is one of these programs. It is Blue Tooth compatible and claims to be able to capture 150 words a minute which is pretty impressive. It could definitely help me finish assignments faster and with less strain on my eyes and hands.

To get a good idea idea of how fast you speak as opposed to how fast you can type, take the Dragon’s typing speed test! I did, and let me tell it the difference is amazing. I wouldn’t want to totally replace typing, but voice recognition is a huge help with the more tedious and involved projects. To learn more about this software, and how it can help you, watch these videos and view the following links.

Preparations
Posted on October 6th, 2008 @ 10:51 am

This (well, last) weekend went by in a flash.  I went to land of the bountiful (suburbs) to do some shopping with my mom and then at work I inventoried a sports store.  That went into the evening, and I was really tired when we got back at around 11.

Sunday, my room looked like a tornado went through it, so I really needed to sort through some stuff and put some order back into it.  I’ve started putting some stuff away in suitcases in preparation for later this month.  Anyway, today it looks much more tidy, my only question is, how the hell did I accumulate so much makeup, clothes and shoes?!!

Today I must devote to studying for math (done the course, only two more tests!) and working on English essay.  So many buckets of fun, but it has to be done.  I also have a few things to research on the exciting subject of insurance.  I don’t know much about insurance, and I certainly don’t know squat about term life insurance. Wish me luck!

Cars

One inevitable cost when it comes to owning a car is auto insurance. I haven’t yet had the privilege (ha ha) in dealing with car insurance because.. I don’t have a car! Honestly, it’s an inconvenience sometimes finding transportation but when I think of the many associated costs of owning a car I don’t feel too deprived. ;)

Weight loss methods?
Posted on September 30th, 2008 @ 12:09 pm

There are a lot of different weight loss methods pushed lately, on television, in magazines, in stores and even online. I noticed a lot of these are weight loss pills. I don’t know much about them, but I’m pretty sure the safest, healthiest and most surefire way to lose weight is good old fashioned diet and exercise.

What’s your stance on diet pills?
